| Born
in Columbia Missouri, Marci Crawford Harnden lived and made her art in
Houston Texas in the 1980's exhibiting at Houston venues like Diverse Works,
The Glassell School, and Lawndale Art and Performance Center in their formative
years, before moving with her family to Dallas where she now resides, making
both visual art and music.
When I think about my
own work, I can sense the influences of abstract expressionism, action
painting, photo realism, impressionism, and the illuminist figurative movement
of 1950's California. It interests me how these elements in my work
contrast with one another and morph into an original interpretation of
the contemporary landscape. My works are peaceful meditations, reflecting
nature’s ability for restoration.
This mixture of ideas
and experimentation, have initiated a sequence of discoveries for
me over the years and led to the range and diversity I seek as an artist
to express my individualism.
