My work, whether sculpture, painting or mixed media, is generally defined by creating illusions. I like to challenge the viewers' sense of reality by creating objects/images, that are naturalistically rendered, but seem to behave either counter to the nature of the material - or the images portrayed.
By using wood to
replicate objects made of other materials - like a soft cotton sock - I
like to create illusions that contrast perceived reality with actuality.
It's especially effective when the wood appears to take on non-wood-like
qualities described by words like soft, pliable, limp, flimsy, melting,
draped, folded or fuzzy.
